Sussex Wing Adventure Training Team was formed in 1997, this was mainly due to changes within the Corps around staff requiring formal qualifications and demands for more adventure training activities. The team is made up from volunteers from all around the Wing who have an active interest in adventure training and outdoor pursuits. We currently have 20 members; all have various qualifications in outdoor pursuits, from Basic Expedition Leader to Mountain Leader. Several members of the team have specialist qualification, dealing with canoeing to climbing, as well as power boating and sailing qualifications.
The team is used to run all of the Wings main adventure training activities. These include our two annual adventure training camps in Windermere and Llanbedr, the Southdown’s night navigation challenge, Crowborough field weekend competition and staff training weeks and weekends accross the UK. The team also helps with running and delivering the Sports Leader - Basic Expedition Leader Award and the Duke of Edinburgh's Award to our squadron staff and senior cadets, as well as helping individual Squadron with all aspects of adventure training.
