National Air Cadet Adventure Training Centre

LLANBEDR

Situated on the Welsh Cost, five miles from Rhinog Mountains, This Adventure Training Centre at Llanbedr was opened in August 1987, The Centre sits next door to the former Defence Evaluation and Research Agency(DERA) airfield of Llanbedr, it nestles beneath the stunning backdrop of the Snowdonia mountains on the mid-Wales coastline , this was once home to the most unusual collection of 'aircraft' in the UK. It was here that DERA provide remotely piloted Drone 'aircraft' for use as aerial targets by the RAF and other UK forces (for more inforamtion about the airfield please click on this link). The primary aim of the Centre is the same as Windermere, to provide facilities for cadets to participate in adventure training in terrain more demanding than that normally found in their local area. The Centre, is a base from which training is undertaken in the Snowdonia National Park.

Cadet courses are provided annually over a 40-week period from February to November. 2445 (Ardudwy) Sqn and the 25metre rimfire range are located adjacent to the Centre. All main utilities are provided and the centre is warm and comfortable. The self- catering kitchen has gas cookers, adeqate cooking equipment, freezers, refrigerators, microwave and a dishwasher. The facilities also include showers, toilets, TV, Video and DVD players and a large drying room. The Centre has an excellent lecture facilitie, with moden computer projection exipment, ideal for courses and teaching. In 1999 the Centre was given a £300k programme of refurbishment, redesign and expansion.
