Situated in South lakeland town of Windermere the National Air Cadets Adventure Training Centre (NACATC) Windermere, a former Territorial Army Drill Hall, opened in 1982. The primary aim of the Centre is to provide facilities for cadets to participate in adventure training in terrain more demanding than that normally found in their local area. The Centre, however, is a base from which training is undertaken in the Lake District National Park.
Cadet courses are provided annually over a 40-week period from February to November. The 1204 (Windermere) Sqn is adjacent to the Centre. All main utilities are provided and the centre is warm and comfortable. The self- catering kitchen has gas cookers, adeqate cooking equipment, freezers, refrigerators, microwave and a dishwasher. The facilities also include showers, toilets, TV, Video and DVD players and a large drying room. The Centre has an excellent lecture facilitie, with moden computer projection exipment, ideal for courses and teaching. In 1999 the Centre was given a £80k programme of refurbishment, redesign and expansion. The Centre was awarded 'Approved centre' status in 1996 by the Mountain Leader Training Board, to run Mountain Leader (Summer) courses.
